SHAREWARE GOLD - GAMES
Installation Instructions
STARTING SHAREWARE GOLD - GAMES(tm)
Set the CD-ROM drive as the default drive. If the CD-ROM is drive
D, then enter D: followed by the <ENTER> key at the dos command
prompt. You may start the main program in two ways:
1) Type GO followed by the <ENTER> key. This will start the DPC
program in "TEXT" mode.
2) Type DPC with the desired command line options followed by
the <ENTER> key.
DPC COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
Normally command line options are not needed, unless you have a
monochrome VGA monitor, or have a ram drive that can be used for
temporary files (C:\ is used by default).
NOTE: It has been reported that on some systems, the DPC program
will hang the computer system when the DPC program is started. IF
YOUR SYSTEM HANGS-UP, REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM AND RESTART WITH THE
DPC /T OPTION.
DPC /M
The /M option should be used if you have a monochrome VGA
monitor. This option also sets /T - text mode. This can be used
with any monitor. The program will detect (non-VGA) monochrome
monitors and use this mode automatically.
DPC /T
The /T option is used to run the installation program in text
(non-graphics) mode. While text mode will display information
faster, graphics mode will display more lines on the screen and
provides better mouse support.
DPC /D:
The /D: option is used to specify a ram drive or hard disk that
DPC will use for temporary files. By default DPC will use C:\
for temporary files. D is the drive letter for the drive to be
used. "DPC /E:" would use drive E for temporary files.
===================== KEYBOARD & MOUSE USE =====================
ESC The escape key can normally be used to backup a screen, or
cancel the current process.
TAB The tab key is used to move to the next field.
SHIFT TAB The shift-tab key is used to move to the prior field.
SPACE BAR is used to select options, or files. Some places also
allow the ENTER key as well.
MOUSE LEFT BUTTON
The mouse left button is used to select options or position
the cursor for data input. It can also be used with a
scroll bar to control the text or files that are displayed
in a window. Most options ( like "[ESC] Cancel") can be
selected by clicking the mouse on the description.
MOUSE RIGHT BUTTON
The mouse right button can be used at menus to cancel (same
as the escape key).
The actual use of DPC should be more or less intuitive. We tried
to make things work as one would expect, but in case we didn't,
detailed instructions are provided here.

How to use this program
Use up arrow, down arrow, page up, page down, or the mouse
on the scroll bar to view the information. ENTER, ESC or
the RIGHT mouse button will cancel the viewing.
FILE LISTINGS
Use this option to select and print file listings. This is
the same screen as Search & Copy Options. See Search & Copy
Files for more information on how to use.
REGISTRATION FORM
The registration form is important to confirm that you
received the disk and provide input for future versions.
Fill in the data fields displayed. Use ENTER or the mouse
to move from field to field. ENTER on the last field of a
screen will do an automatic page down. There are three
screens of questions. After entering the last screen, use
the page up and page down keys to review your answers. When
ready to print, press F10 (or click the mouse on the F10
box).
SEARCH & COPY FILES
The first screen that you will see is the Search & Copy
Options screen. This screen is used to control to order of
the files to be displayed, to select specific file
categories, and/or to search for a keyword.
The simplest option is to press F10 without doing anything
else. This will select all files in order by file name.
FILE CATEGORIES
The file categories are displayed. Use the mouse or space
bar to select file categories. The F2 or F3 keys can be
used to clear or select all. Selecting no categories is the
same as selecting all. Page up, page down or the scroll bar
can be used to select categories not displayed. If all
categories are not selected, DPC will have to take a few
seconds to scan the files database to select only those
files in the selected categories.
SORT BY:
Use the TAB key or mouse to move to one of the sort by
options. Press the mouse button or the space bar to change
the order in which files will be displayed.
KEYWORD SEARCH
Use the mouse or TAB key to position the cursor to the
keyword field. If a keyword is entered, DPC will have to
take a few seconds to scan the files database to select only
those files or file descriptions that contain the keyword.
Press F10 to select files for coping.
SEARCH & COPY FILES
Select the files you wish to copy by pressing the space bar,
enter key or by using the mouse. Use the F3 key to return
to the SEARCH & COPY OPTIONS screen. The F4 key will toggle
between showing Category/File Name/Size/Date/Description
(first 34 characters) and File Name/Description (full 60
characters).
After selecting files to copy to a particular directory,
press F10. This brings up the COPY TO PATH window. Enter
the destination path for the selected files. If the path,
or part of the path does not exist, you will be prompted to
create the path.
After the files are copied to the destination path, the
SEARCH & COPY FILES screen will display. Continue selecting
and coping files. Files that have been successfully copied
are marked with a * in the first position and on color
monitors will show up as blue. These files cannot be
selected again without first returning to the Main Menu.
SHELL TO DOS
This will leave DPC in memory and return to DOS. Entering
EXIT at the DOS command line will return to DPC.
QUIT TO DOS
This option exits or ends DPC.
